Move Over Twilight. . . .

I just finished reading the final book in the Gemma Doyle Trilogy and my only regret is that there are no more to read. I LOVED these books! Oddly enough, a couple of weeks ago, I was at TJ Maxx and browsing the stationary/scrapbook section and there were a couple of books shoved in there. The first was A Great and Terrible Beauty and the other was The Sweet Far Thing. I had no idea what these books were about only that they took place in Victorian England and were about boarding school girls who form a secret club. I hadn't read a series since Twilight and these books were discounted so I thought I'd give them a whirl. I really had to trudge through the first quarter of the first book and get used to the author's language. I was a little annoyed at first, thinking I'd bought a teeny-bopper, my-life-is-so-hard-because-someone-is-prettier-than-me, whiny book. Once I got into the meat of the plot, things got interesting, then better, then impossible to stop reading. Immediately after finishing I HAD to buy the second book. I devoured that in a couple of days and now I'm done with the last book. They are easy reads given that they are young adult fiction (comparable to Twilight minus the teen angst) and a little scary. I got goosebumps several times and had to sleep with the lights on more than I'd like to admit. If you liked Twilight you'll probably love these books too. Oh, if only there was a movie to come out. . . .

Now what am I going to read?

  1. I've only read the first one and I have the second on hold at the library. I loved the first one-and I am almost sure they ARE coming out with a movie. I could be wrong though.

  4. Peggy -
Emily should be okay with it though I don't know how squeamish she is. You might want to read it first and decide.

  7. I just checked that book out from the library yesterday! Same author also wrote Princess Academy, if you haven't already read that.

  8. Can I borrow? I've been reading a ton of Amish-set novels by Beverly Lewis lately. I like them because they are relatively simple and quite clean!

Speak up! Let me know what you think. I don't mind blog stalkers as long as you don't try to sell me anything.
